Lawrenceville, GA –August, 2010

While academic achievement and preparation play a significant role in college enrollment, not knowing the fine points of college admissions and financial aid is a major obstacle which can prevent some students from reaching their full academic potential.

The Gwinnett County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (GCAC) Education Development Committee will host a free metro-wide Parent and Student College Symposium and Career Fair.  This event will inform students and parents about the most effective methods for college planning.  In addition, participants will have an opportunity to speak with individuals from various professions to gain job insight which can help them determine a possible career path. The Symposium and Career Fair will be held at Gwinnett Technical College in Lawrenceville, Georgia beginning at 10:00AM until 2:00PM on Saturday, September 11, 2010.

Kaplan, the world’s largest diversified education company, has partnered with GCAC to serve as a guest presenter. A Kaplan representative will deliver information to help students prepare for the SAT/ACT and answer questions regarding the testing process. Kaplan has also agreed to award two educational scholarships which can be used to attend any of their preparatory classes. Information on how to obtain financial assistance through the Federal Aid for Student Assistance (FAFSA) will also be discussed. Representatives from The Scholarship Academy and Hobnob, two companies established to help students in their search for scholarships and career guidance, will be on hand to share their expertise.

The college symposium and career fair is not limited to residents of Gwinnett County. It is a community initiative to empower and educate our 21st Century leaders. For more information, please contact the event coordinator.
